About Amana
About me
Kia ora! I'm Amana and I'm from Christchurch, currently studying Physiotherapy at the University of Otago. Year 13 Amana had no idea what she wanted going into university and would have loved some guidance on navigating uni. Six years down the line, with the experience I have now, I'd love to help out in any way I can!
My uni experience
Going from a BSc to a health professional programme, your week gets more packed because there's a greater emphasis on practical skills. You'd expect at least one to two labs every day on top of lectures, whereas with a BSc you'd typically have around two labs per week with lectures scattered throughout. I was in halls in first year. It's really good for making friends and meals are sorted, which gives you more time to study. It can be quite pricey compared to flatting though. Finding balance in first year was hard, of course, but once you get the hang of it you eventually work it out. There are also loads of student associations you can join, whether that's archery, language learning, taekwondo, and more, to balance out your study.
Hobbies
I co-founded an organisation for Muslim women that involves planning all kinds of activities like picnics, movie nights, and educational talks. The gym here is free for students, so I also like going with friends to play badminton.
