About Daniela
About me
I'm a 29-year-old PhD student training to become a Clinical Psychologist. While I didn't grow up in New Zealand or go to high school here, this is now my sixth year at university, having completed two degrees so far. I have loads of experience with university life, especially for anyone looking to get into Otago's Clinical Psychology programme. I remember starting university without anyone to give me advice or tell me what to expect, and I know what it feels like to be nervous and lost before it all begins. I hope I can ease some of those nerves and share some tips, whether on the academic or social side!
My uni experience
Doing a PhD and Postgrad Diploma at the same time was pretty challenging. I'm currently on hiatus from the Postgrad Diploma to focus on my PhD, which has eased the workload a lot. I was flatting in my first year. It definitely has its pros and cons depending on the type of person you are. As someone more introverted, I preferred it, but there are things that only halls can give you. It's important to make time for your social life. It's easy to get sucked into the mindset of needing top grades at all times, but balance is so important for maintaining a healthy mind.
Hobbies
Going to the gym, reading, listening to music.
