About Scarlett
About me
I'm a third-year Law student at the University of Canterbury. After spending my first year at Otago, I made the move to Christchurch and have loved the culture and lifestyle here ever since. Outside of uni I work part-time, flat with eight awesome people, and I'm a sucker for anything that gets me outdoors or pushes me out of my comfort zone. Ski touring, tramping, climbing, biking, running, Christchurch has it all on your doorstep with the mountains, ocean, and Port Hills. Makes for a pretty epic weekend. I also love getting involved in things beyond the classroom. My favourite so far has been joining the Craigieburn Ski Field committee as a representative for the younger generation, working to make it an all-year-round destination. I want to give you the honest advice and reassurance about the unknown that I wish I'd had, including tips on surviving law and navigating the big change that comes with starting uni.
My uni experience
Law is typically described as a demanding degree, but honestly I think it's as demanding as you make it. Day to day it's less intense than a lot of other degrees because it's very exam-heavy, meaning semesters can be relatively chill but exam season is a real knuckle-down period. I was in Cumberland Hall at Otago in my first year. I really enjoyed the social side, though dealing with such a big change wasn't easy at first. It gets better! The social side is exactly what you make of it. Putting your hand up for everything is the best way to meet interesting, like-minded people you'd never cross paths with otherwise. Clubs are a great way to build connections outside of your hall or school friends. Following your natural hobbies and passions will gravitate you towards your people!
Hobbies
Ski touring, tramping, climbing, biking, running, and getting involved in clubs and committees. If there's an adventure to be had, I'm in.
